Nostalgia strikes

The Nostalgia bonus round was a tricky one to decide what to paint. I had a few different options available, but something for 7TV seemed the most appropriate as the whole thing is based upon Nostalgia. These guys are some generic mooks, the likes of which you'd see in a Bond film, or in an Avengers episode.

The models are some of their oldest, so also kinda fit from that perspective too. It isn’t clear from the photos, but they could do with a resculpt sometime soon as their feet are tiny and the hands quite big and lumpy… but they are perfect for the job.

Painting table updates

As I mentioned yesterday, it's been a while since we've had a painting update (or many updates at all come to think of it). Please excuse the rushed photos... I had millimeters left on the battery so had to rush, which has led to some shoddy, slightly out of focus bits, or edges of the backing paper. Oh the shame! When I get some of the terrain done I need to do better photos of everything anyway.

While doing some tidying up a few weeks back I came across yet more plastic Russians... it is amazing how many of these guys you get in a box! There were enough parts for a couple more riflemen, a panzerfaust, a sergeant/smg, sniper team, AT gun and a commissar!

With the Russians finally, finally done I decided to move onto some of the Crooked Dice bits I picked up at Salute this year.  The second figure in the first photo is supposed to be a power pack for a laser (second model in the second photo), but I felt these worked better as a radio operator and an LMG, so that is what they are. I've no idea why the fourth figure in the first photo has forest camo trousers, but he felt more like a commando style guy, rather than the SAS look you get by putting the gas mask heads onto the Department X troops. At some point he will get some 80's style army companions

Facing off against Department X is the dastardly Generalisimo Stanly, named that mostly because he looks a bit like Stan Lee... His minions are still sat in the painting pile and will probably end up looking like extras from the A Team in their green jump suits.

New 7TV source books

Crooked Dice have done it again. Today saw the release of at least one new source book for 7TV players

First up we have a free programme guide called Agents of A.C.E, which was written by Mike Jackson for his casts. While this is an unofficial guide, it's been given the full CD treatment and made available for free download : http://www.crooked-dice.co.uk/misc/PG-ACE.pdf

The other release that looks like it is supposed to be available (but currently isn't due to a Gumtree issue) is another fan written tome of goodness called Beyond the Seven Seas, which adds pirates and all sorts of piratical adventure options to your games.

"Repulse Barbary pirates in the Mediterranean, thwart treason, explore fantastic civilizations in the New World or confront exotic customs in the mysterious orient. Beyond the Seven Seas has it all.
So will you take to the High Seas as a brave swashbuckling captain or a renaissance genius? Or maybe play a cruel marauding pirate or greedy governor, as you set sail into the age of discovery?"
Hopefully the link will be fixed later...

Pulp variety

With the first batch of tentacles being based upon Purple Tentacle, it was time for some Green Tentacles. We've only got one green/yellow combination as it didn't really work that well, so I switched to green with purple suckers for the other 5. Still.. you have to have one green/yellow, right?  Looking at the photos, I really need to clean the loose flock off the black next time!

I've started a little 7TV cast based on the tv series Life on Mars, with some fantastic police from Crooked Dice. I've got some detectives and a police woman still to paint up.

To go with these, I also picked up some of the Crooked Dice Weeping Angels. Oh no! It looks like the Police have stumbled into an area inhabited by the Weeping Angels (talk about a crossover!) Those coppers better not blink...

Oh dear, those poor police officers...

Quickly, keep staring at them and back away slowly. What ever you do, don't blink...

I said DON'T BLINK!

Oh sh...

Christmas presents for friends

This year I decided to paint some figures for Christmas presents, rather than buying a book, game or CD. Something that is a bit more personal and shows some thought and effort. They seem to have gone down well

The other set completed on time were Number 2 and Number 6 from The Prisoner.

The figures are from Crooked Dice... possibly my favorite gaming company. The sculpts are nice and clean, with plenty of character that brings the models alive.

Unfortunately I had an accident with the spray varnish as it misted up. Thankfully a coat of hand painted gloss varnish managed to fix the problem... but I didn't have any flatter varnishes to take the shine off the models... hence the photos being a bit dark to counter this.

The other set were Crooked Dice's GhostBusters

He was so pleased with them that 5 minutes after dropping off the parcel there was an excited post on facebook with the following photograph. Made my day :)
