A bit more cult

Between making more bases and priming the secret santa  bits I managed to get a bit more done on the cult. Again, these don't have bases yet, but things are starting to pull together a bit. Today's batch is mostly 1st and 2nd gen hybrids (the ones with more arms and claws) plus a 3rd gen with mining laser.

Here are all of them in one batch so far. It is small, but it is a start.

There is a bit more to do on these as the skin isn't 100% complete, but two posts in two days has to be a record this year. With a day off tomorrow, can I make it three for three?

While we are on the theme of Cults...

Cult update

Halloween is nearly upon us, so as a bit of a shock surprise, you can have an update to prove that I'm not actually dead... I just feel like it. Between hunting for secret santa and santa clause gifts I've finally managed to get a bit more done on the cult. The oranges are really growing on me, expecially for the 3rd and 4th gens. I was worried that some of these would be too bright, but the darker greys of the armour and pads have toned it down a bit.

These 5 are the furthest along and are just waiting for the bases to dry before I stick them together, so there will be some better photos when there are more to show off.

The skin was an interesting experiment, mixing purples into the flesh. The aim is for that the earlier the generation, the more purple there is in the skin. When the first and second gen hybrids appear you'll see what I mean a bit more clearly. I might post a wip of the heads tomorrow if I get any further with things

Choosing Cult colours

Last weekend saw the release of the first Genestealer cult codex in nigh on 23 years. I have to laugh when those Sisters of Battle players complain about not having a new book or models yet, when our *last* codex/model (prior to Deathwatch:Overkill) is years older than their *first* model release. Awww bless em ;)

I'd been thinking about selling off my Guard army for a while, but having now seen the Cult book I'm very glad I didn't as a vast portion of the list converts directly into the Cult Neophyte squad choice. With very little effort that, combined with two copies of Space Hulk models and Deathwatch:Overkill I have nearly 1500 points of cult that should be far more effective than my infantry horde ever was.

The one task that remains before plotting the construction plans is a colour scheme. My guard are browns with dirty ochre helmets/pads (see right hand figure below). As the cult model range is themed around a mining colony, this works for the local pdf but I would like something a little more miner-ish. This is the first idea; all comments/criticism is gratefully received.

Cult rising

Every time I think I've finally slipped free of the GW bandwagon, something comes along to undo all the damage killing the Warhammer world and increasing prices as done.

I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but in the dim, distant past of 1st/2nd Ed 40k I used to play a rather fun Genestealer Cult. Unfortunately with the switch to 3rd edition GW, in their infinite wisdom, decided to do away with it, leaving many of us without a playable army.

Yesterday and this morning images started to appear for the next 40k board game that is making many a Cultist overjoyed. The Cult of the 4 armed Father is returning in 2 week time with some of the nicest figures I've seen from GW in while.

For me, one nice touches is that the cult is based on a mining colony, equipped with mining lasers and other pieces of industrial equipment. My old Guard force was based on a mining colony, so the temptation to revisit this to make it part of the cult is overwhelming. I hear the recent attempts at board games are coming along nicely, especially Calth.

On a different note, work on the challenge has been very slow over the last few weeks. Initially it got derailed as Claire decided to start us off on the slipper slope that is Lego Dimensions (so much fun!) and this weekend is being eaten up with painting of a different sort. The building work on Claire's new workshop has reached a pint where we need to do our bit and start painting the walls and ceiling. Sadly as some idiot (that would be me) decided to save some money and paint the bare plaster ourselves. I suspect not too much more will be done for the challenge this year, but we will see.
